The big smoke is positively crawling with green spaces, public spots and royal parks just begging for a picnic. Perhaps the largest and most visited area is Hyde Park, London's biggest park which spans just under 400 acres. Loved by locals and visitors alike, it's perhaps loved for its location - right in the centre of the city - as it is its greenery.
The nicest spot to sit at in Hyde Park is near the Serpentine, a large lake in the centre where you can try pedalos and row boats. The views are divine and nearby you'll find an even more beautiful spot - a section of flowers and a large, umbrella like tree that the kids will love exploring.
If you're looking for a hip park, head to Victoria Park - known as 'Vicky Park' where the hipsters and East London folk hang out. The landscaped garden seems made for a quiet picnic whilst the stone alcoves, which were saved from the Old London Bridge, are great for a spot of shade if the sun happens to come out. Here you'll find cool kids having barbecues, playing music and a festival atmosphere all year long.
In the Welsh capital, don't mess around with small parks or patches of grass, go straight for the big one - Cardiff Castle. With 2,000 years of history here, there is lots to explore but not before you've sat down for a cucumber sandwich of course. Located in the heart of the city, you'll discover why Roman soldiers slept here, noble knights held court and why it is considered a romantic Victorian fantasy - steeped in history and then some!
There are also plenty of child-friendly activities available at the castle from hands on crafts, to fancy-dress costumes and a puppet theatre that's a lot of fun.
